Helmsley Managing Partner launches journal with Gen. David Petraeus
Benedict McAleenan, Founder of Helmsley Partners, has joined with General David Petraeus, former Commander of US Central Command and former CIA Director, to launch a new quarterly journal about environmental policy.
Environmental Affairs is published by Policy Exchange, the UK's leading think tank, where Benedict is a Senior Adviser. It seeks to explore areas where environmental policies overlap with other policy issues, from foreign relations to security, finance and technology. It will be published quarterly and Benedict will be its editor.
To launch the journal, Benedict co-authored an essay with General Petraeus on The Geopolitics of Climate Change, which sets out a new framework for understanding geopolitical risks caused by climate change and humanity's response to it.
The first edition also featured articles and essays by former Australian Prime Minister Hon. Malcolm Turnbull AC, former British Foreign Secretary Rt Hon Lord Hague of Richmond and former Portuguese Minister Bruno Maçães, among other distinguished figures from around the world.
Benedict McAleenan said:
"I'm delighted and honoured to launch this work with General Petraeus and several other leading thinkers from around the world. Over his extraordinary career, General Petraeus has shown mastery of the most pressing geopolitical risks and threats at the global level. Climate change is certainly one of them and there needs to be further work to understand what this means for international relations in the 21st century. It's been a pleasure to work with General Petraeus to set out a framework for analysing those risks."
